Maura Kelley, MD, Awarded July Distinguished Faculty of the Month

Headshot of Dr. Kelley.The Faculty Affairs Office is pleased to announce that Maura Kelley, MD, is July’s Distinguished Faculty of the Month.

An Assistant Professor of Medical Sciences & Education, Dr. Kelley in an infectious diseases specialist whose recent focus has been on medical education. A member of the BUSM community since 2008, Kelley taught first-and second-year medical students in the doctoring curriculum for more than a decade. She is the course director for Head and Neck Anatomy as well as Infectious Diseases for master’s degree candidates in the Oral Health Sciences program. In addition, she has established BEAMS (Boston Education, Advising & Mentoring in STEM) as a pipeline program for underrepresented Boston youth and sponsored the launch of BUSM PUSH (Pipeline of Underrepresented Students for Healthcare), a new medical student organization.

Kelley received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Williams College and medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at Tufts New England Medical Center, and served as an attending physician at New England Medical Center and Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

The nomination states, “Dr. Kelley is an admired and respected educator who works tirelessly to advance diversity and inclusion, as well as BUSM’s educational mission.”
