Provost Workshop: Climate Change and Health

The discussion will center on the existing and expected health impacts of climate change, and the current and developing plans by the city of Boston and BU to address these impacts.

Panelists:

Aaron ‘Ari’ Bernstein, MD, MPH
Dr. Bernstein is assistant faculty director of Climate Change & Health Initiative at the Harvard Global Health Institute; associate director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment; and a pediatric hospitalist at Boston Children’s Hospital
Krupa Patel, MD
Dr. Patel is an internal medicine-preventive medicine resident at BMC and pursuing her master’s in Epidemiology at BUSPH. As part of her public health practicum, she is working with the Boston Public Health Commission to update their extreme temperatures response plan.
Alisha Pegan
Ms. Pegan is coordinator of the City of Boston’s “Climate Ready Boston” initiatives. Her work centers around heat preparedness, green infrastructure, infrastructure coordination and the development of the Greenovate Leaders program.
Anthony Janetos, PhD
Dr. Janetos is director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and Professor of Earth and Environment. He is an expert on climate change and has been a lead author on several reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He has served as chair of the BU Climate Action Plan Taskforce.
Paige Machado, MD | Moderator
Dr. Machado, a 2018 graduate of BUSM and a founding member of the BUMC Climate Action Group, is an emergency medicine resident at BMC.
