Minors

If your research involves children, there are special requirements to protect their rights and welfare:

  • The research must either (1) be minimal risk; (2) be likely to directly benefit the child; or (3) be a minor increase over minimal risk AND be likely to generate important knowledge about the condition or disease of the subjects.
  • The parents or guardians of the child must provide permission/consent for the child to participate, and the child must provide assent if old enough.

More information about research on children may be found by contacting us or at HRPP Policies and Procedures.
