Nutrient Metabolism in Health and Disease

BNORC members in this group employ animal (diet-induced obese, transgenic and knockout) and cell culture models, and engage in clinical/translational studies to:

  •  understand how nutrient metabolism is regulated at cell, tissue and organismic levels (special focus on nutrient signaling in white and brown adipose tissues)
  • elucidate how abnormalities in these processes translate into risk for metabolic disease (obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular, cancer)
  • translate this knowledge into opportunities for the development of preventive and therapeutic interventions
