Psychiatry and Social Media: Frenemies?

Historically, mental health professionals, physicians and particularly psychiatrists have eschewed participation on social media, particularly in their professional roles. But in recent years, it has become evident that there are increasing benefits to using social media to enhance clinical care as well as one’s career. Much of the information found in the medical literature warns of the dangers of using social media and tips for maintaining professionalism. However, during this talk we will discuss the benefits of participating on social media and the types of social media engagement psychiatrists and mental health professionals have available for use for professional enrichment.
