In this interdisciplinary presentation, panelists will speak to their experiences in providing affirming care to LGBTQIA+ people. Each member of the panel represents a distinct field of care — primary care, psychiatry, social work, and psychology — and each dedicates a significant portion of their professional focus to working with sexual and gender minorities. Topics to be covered by panelists include the importance of providing affirming care, intricacies of being a member of a small community even in a large city, professional benefits of working with queer and trans people, how intersectional identities can affect clinical relationships, and experiences of interdisciplinary mental and physical healthcare.

Learning Objectives:
    1. Discuss an applied definition of affirming practice form four professional perspectives
    2. Identify professional benefits of providing affirming care for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
    3. Define at least one way they can apply affirming care within the fields pf psychology, primary care, psychiatry, and social work.
