As an iterative tool and paradigm, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is proving to be a transformative force in the field of psychiatry. By offering a massive range of application, AI signals significant opportunities to improve the diagnosis treatment, research, and care delivery available to individuals facing mental health challenges. In recent years, AI has yielded promising, developments across varied medical applications such as early detection, psychiatric treatments, emotion recognition and monitoring, personalized plans, virtual support, data-driven insights. As a primer in AI and psychiatry, this presentation will outline the history of this technology and discuss innovative developments in the mental health field. In addition, this representation aims to underscore potential ethical concerns relating to Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and empower clinicians and learners to be change agents for a more equitable future of AI and mental health.
