I work on determining how HIV-1 established infection in myeloid cells. Specifically, I look at how HIV-1 accessory proteins interact with host antiviral machinery to allow for a spreading infection in dendritic cells and macrophages. My hope is to determine what mechanisms of regulation are necessary for spreading infection and if HIV-1 modulates immune activation in these cells.
