International medical students: Rotations at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine are currently closed for international medical students. Students enrolled in U.S. medical schools: The 2023-2024 elective catalogue will open to applications from visiting students enrolled in U.S. medical schools on March 3, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. All interested applicants must apply using VSLO. The first block open to applications from visiting students begins on June 26, 2023. Students may be accepted for a maximum of 4 weeks elective time at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine has an established program for medical students interested in applying for electives. Students who wish to participate must be in good academic standing and in their final year at a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical school or an osteopathic college of medicine accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). Visiting applicants should refer to the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) website
Please note: Commercial General Public Liability insurance is required at a minimum coverage amount of 1 million per occurrence/3 million aggregate. This is in addition to Professional Liability insurance at a minimum coverage amount of 1 million per occurence/3 million aggregate.
Students will be required to upload COVID-19 vaccination documentation as part of the application process.
The fee for an accepted applicant is $135.00 and is nonrefundable. Cancellation of an elective less than one month from the start date must be done through the Registrar’s Office. All electives are (4) weeks in length and are available for application to qualified students, space permitting. Boston University students are given priority for all elective opportunities. Visiting students are limited to (1) four week rotation. While participating in an elective at the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine the student remains enrolled at their home institution. Once scheduled for a rotation the assignment is final.
The School does not provide housing or parking privileges to visiting students.

Visiting students should follow the same procedures, rules and regulations as Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine students. Violation of any school policy will result in immediate withdrawal from the elective. You can access these policies at:
In the case of an emergency the visiting students should contact the Office of Student Affairs Dean on Duty. During business hours you can call the OSA at 617-358-7466. After hours and on weekends, students should page the Dean on Duty by calling (617) 638-5795 and sending a page to #4196 or sending a text page to pager #4196 through the pager directory.
