Research Interests

My present focus is translational research as applied to innovative or improved diagnostics for microbiology and infectious diseases. As clinical co-investigator, I collaborate with several PIs on the BU campus. Some current projects include:

  1. Development of Rapid, Portable Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) Platform for Bacterial Detection and Identification, Dr. Lawrence Ziegler, PI, Dept. of Chemistry and The Photonics Center; Dr. Catherine Klapperich, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering.
  2. Specific Detection of Human Viruses and Microbes in Human Specimens using PNA-based technology. Dr. Maxim Frank-Kamenetskii, PI, BU School of Bioengineering. The Wallace H. Coulter Translational Partners Award/Translational Biomedical Engineering Partnership Program

Also, the BMC clinical Microbiology Laboratory supports various validations and method-comparison studies of interest to clinical microbiology. And we support a variety of BUSM faculty who are engaged in clinical research protocols.
