The Section of Infectious Diseases’ research portfolio spans many areas of excellence that encompass public health initiatives and programs. Our specialty offers extensive public health program embedded within the ambulatory Center of Infectious Diseases (CID) clinic, offering medical case management and patient navigation services to HIV positive and Hepatitis C positive patients.

Cassandra Pierre, MD, MPH, MSc

Her research is focused on infection prevention in vulnerable population (including the implementation of low-cost infection control interventions to reduce bacteremia among neonates in low-income settings)

 

 

 

Sabrina Assoumou, MD, MPH 

Her research focuses on medical complications of substance use including HIV and Hepatitis C virus (HCV). She is also interested in models of care and on improving the continuum of care for individuals with HIV and/or HCV.

 

 

 

 

Rachel Epstein, MD, MScE

Dr. Epstein’s current and recent work includes projects analyzing the effects of Medicaid HCV treatment restrictions on care cascade outcome achievement, HIV prevention and medication adherence, and comparing the cost-effectiveness of HCV and OUD screening, evaluation, and treatment interventions in women of reproductive age, children, and the general population.

 

 

Mari-Lynn Drainoni, PhD, MEd 

Dr. Drainoni’s areas of expertise include the conduct of implementation research, qualitative research methods and mixed method studies with a focus on integrating research into practice.

 

 

 

Rebecca Rudel, DrPH, MPH, RD

Dr. Rudel is an implementation scientist and evaluator focused on the intersection between clinical care and public health. She uses implementation science frameworks and methods to evaluate programs and interventions that aim to improve quality of and access to care for underserved and vulnerable populations.

 

 

Shana Burrowes, PhD, CPH 

Dr. Burrowes’ focus has been on infectious diseases with an emphasis on health in the Caribbean and minority and immigrant communities in the US.
