Sherral Devine

Research Associate Professor

Dr. Devine served as the licensed clinical neuropsychologist at the FHS from 1999 until 2020, being responsible for the training, supervision, and quality control of the neuropsychology testers who collected all the cognitive data in the FHS-BAP datasets, as well as serving (and continuing to serve) as neuropsychologist on the dementia adjudication panel for FHS (i.e., determining cognitive status and underlying cause if dementia is identified). In addition, as the only consistent BAP faculty member at FHS working in conjunction with Dr. Au, she was closely involved in the operations during this timeframe. Since 2020, Dr. Devine is focusing her work on establishing a mentorship program at the FHS-BAP to facilitate entry into brain aging research for students and early career investigators. Dr. Devine is also involved with pursuing activities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), including creating specific pathway programs for students from underrepresented groups to access experiences and opportunities in brain aging research. Her commitment to developing programs designed to increase diversity among brain aging researchers extends to her engagement with international collaborators from low- and middle-income countries, to help amplify their voices within the scientific community. In addition to promoting diversity among brain aging researchers, she is also committed to working on increasing diversity among research participants involved in studies on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, given the notable lack of scientific investigation with participants from underrepresented groups.
