New Program Project Grant on “Developing Pluripotent Stem Cells to Model and Treat Lung Disease”

“Developing Pluripotent Stem Cells to Model and Treat Lung Disease” team.

A team of Pulmonary Center researchers, led by Dr. Darrell Kotton, has been awarded a five-year, $14 million grant from the NIH’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for his research, “Developing Pluripotent Stem Cells to Model and Treat Lung Disease.” The other PIs on this award are Drs. Andrew Wilson, Finn Hawkins, and Kostas Alysandratos. This is the first NHLBI Program Project Grant (PPG) that will focus entirely on stem cells to advance lung regeneration research, in this case translating lung stem cell research from basic discovery to future clinical applications. The PPG will have 4 projects and 2 cores, all interacting to complete shared aims, and synergistic cross-project experiments. The below graphic outlines the different projects and their leaders:
