Boston is a city rich in history, old world charm, and modern vitality. Home to more than 60 colleges and universities, it is an intellectual and cultural center, diverse in its people, stimulating in its opportunities, yet relaxed and accessible.
Boston’s many distinct neighborhoods offer varied cuisine, arts and entertainment, and recreational activities. Historic architectural treasures intermingle with contemporary skyscrapers, evidence of the city’s thriving business and financial community and its leading role in research and technology.
The campuses of Boston University are well situated to enjoy these opportunities. The Medical Campus is located in Boston’s South End and connects to the Charles River and Fenway Campuses by a convenient shuttle-bus system. It is only minutes from the downtown theater, shopping, government, and financial districts.
Experience Boston
Boston is home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and a wealth of musical options from opera, rock, jazz, and reggae. Dance and theater groups perform regularly, and students can take special advantage of performances at the Boston University College of Fine Arts and the Booth Theatre. Boston museums include Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Galleries intermingle with elegant boutiques on Newbury Street, and visitors participate in a variety of interactive exhibits at the Museum of Science.
An enthusiastic sports city, Boston supports the Red Sox, the New England Patriots, the Celtics, and the Bruins. Each April, the Boston Marathon passes through the Boston University Charles River campus. In October, the Head of the Charles, one of the world’s premier rowing competitions, begins at the Boston University Bridge.
There are beaches to the north and south, including the famous shores of Cape Cod and for hikers and skiers the mountains of New Hampshire,Vermont and Maine are a few hours by car.
Medical Campus Life
Boston supports a vigorous intellectual environment and is world renowned for biomedical research and biotechnology. The Medical Campus includes the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Dental Medicine and Graduate Medical Sciences, as well as Boston Medical Center.
The Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine includes more than 1700 faculty members and nearly 1900 medical and graduate students. The high quality of research at the Medical Campus is demonstrated by FY 2020 total research awards valued at $435M. Over 25 labs across Medical and Charles River campuses are home to predoctoral and postdoctoral students in our Molecular Training Program. Faculty in our department and training program are passionate researchers, caring mentors, and cross-disciplinary collaborators.
