Kristen Segars, MD/PhD candidate, receives an F30 award
Kristen Segars, MD/PhD candidate in the Biomolecular Pharmacology Training Program, received an F30 award on January 28, 2022.
Kristen’s thesis research in Dr. Vickery Trinkaus-Randall’s laboratory focuses on cell signaling events that initiate and direct wound healing in the cornea. She uses machine learning and confocal microscopy to study calcium signaling events generated by the purinergic receptor P2X7 and the ion channel Pannexin-1 in particular. She aims to characterize these events in a healthy cornea and identify how they become aberrant in non-healing diabetic corneal ulcers.
