George J. Murphy, PhD, Promotion to Professor of Medicine

We are pleased to share the exciting news that George J. Murphy, PhD, has received a well-deserved promotion to Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Murphy, a member of our Section of Hematology & Medical Oncology, is a leader in stem cell biology, with a focus at the intersection of regenerative medicine and aging biology. Alongside his colleagues, Drs. Darrell Kotton and Gustavo Mostoslavsky, he co-founded the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM), which has become a national leader in the development and application of induced pluripotent stem cell technology.

His research spans from foundational work in blood cell development to more recent studies on exceptional longevity, and has been continuously funded by the NIH for over a decade—a testament to its impact and innovation. In addition to his research accomplishments, Dr. Murphy serves as Co-Chair of Research & Scholarly Activities on the Boston University Faculty Council.

Dr. Murphy’s many accolades include recognition as an American Society of Hematology Scholar Award recipient, a National Blood Foundation Fellow, and a National Academy of Medicine Healthy Aging Catalyst Awardee.
