Appointment of Laura Lowery, Ph.D as Associate Chief for Faculty Affairs, Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Laura Lowery, Ph.D., to the position of Associate Chief for Faculty Affairs in the Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology. Dr. Lowery is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine in the section; in addition to serving as PI for her laboratory, she has successfully led efforts in our section to promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access and to enhance clinician vitality. She is a highly skilled mentor, having served as both a formal and informal advisor to a number of faculty and staff in our section.

Dr. Lowery received her undergraduate degree from the University of California San Diego and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working in the laboratory of Dr. Hazel Sive at the Whitehead Institute. As a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Lowery studied axon guidance with Dr. David Van Vactor and Dr. Gaudenz Danuser. She served as a faculty member at Boston College for six years, and was recruited to the Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Boston University and Boston Medical Center in 2020. She is currently leading a successful research program focused on cytoskeletal dynamics and cell motility. As Associate Chief for Faculty Affairs in the section, Dr. Lowery will work to further expand our efforts in DEIA, enhance our mentorship programs, and provide support for our clinical and research faculty as they advance in their careers. We are thrilled to have Laura in this new role!
