Welcome Matt O’Brien to the Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology

We are excited to welcome Matt O’Brien to the Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology! Matt was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and is the oldest of four children. As an undergrad, he studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, he joined a design team to make assistive solutions for disabled members of the Ann Arbor community and later taught a Python course within the BME department. Computational approaches to diagnosing, monitoring, and treating disease pique his interest. Additionally, he finds tissue engineering to be a particularly interesting field of biotechnology. As a new bioinformatician in the Dries lab, he is excited to contribute to the fast-developing field of spatial omics data analysis and learn how it can impact clinical workflows. Beyond that, he thoroughly enjoys exercising, cooking, and learning new things outside of our field. Although this may be hard to hear for the Bostonians in the room, he is indeed a Yankee fan! Finally, two fun facts about Matt are that he knows how to sail and that he is conversationally fluent in Spanish. Matt looks forward to meeting you all in person!
