Tuberculosis “Unmasked” – Evidence vs Myths

Dr. Ellner trained in Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Immunology at Johns Hopkins University and the National Institutes of Health. He held faculty positions at Case Western Reserve University and Boston University and is now Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. His research centers on the natural history and immunopathogenesis of tuberculosis, with emphasis on host immune signatures and biomarkers and mechanisms of disease risk, progression, and treatment response. Throughout his career, Dr. Ellner has integrated advanced immunology, microbiology, and virology into rigorous clinical and epidemiologic TB and TB–HIV studies. He has been PD/PI on multiple NIH-funded international programs, including the International Collaboration for AIDS Research, Preparation for AIDS Vaccine Evaluation, the International Collaboration for Infectious Diseases Research, the TB Clinical Diagnostics Research Consortium, the TB Research Unit, and FEND-TB. He also leads major global TB cohorts. As PI of the Pondicherry longitudinal cohorts within RePORT-India, he served as the consortium’s first U.S. Chair. He is additionally a Principal Investigator of the RePORT International Coordinating Center (TB-RICC), supporting scientific integration and innovation across global RePORT networks.
