SummerLab 2026!

Thank you for your interest in SummerLab 2026! We expect that registration for SummerLab will begin in late January, 2026. Please submit this form and we will notify you about the start of registration.

The tentative schedule for SummerLab 2026 will be:

Session 1: July 6-July 17 – Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 2: July 13-July 24 – Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 3: July 20-July 31Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 4: July 27-August 7 – Gene Editing in Human Disease
Session 5: August 3-August 14 – Gene Editing in Human Disease

Gene Editing in Human Disease allows students to learn state-of-the-art CRISPR gene editing, a technique that was recognized by the 2020 Nobel Prize. Through hands-on experiences, students will learn how gene editing can be used to cure disease as well as exploring the ethical and social considerations of the use of these new techniques. In addition to CRISPR, students will perform biotechnology/molecular biology labs including bacterial transformation and cell culture, plasmid minipreps, cell lysis, DNA quantitation, nanoencapsulation, and much more.

SummerLab will meet Monday-Friday from 9AM to approximately 3PM each day. This is a commuter program, so students who live beyond the distance for a daily commute will need to make their own arrangements for suitable accommodations in Boston. Room and board at Boston University will not be available in Summer 2026.

Students must be 15 years old by June 30, 2026 in order to attend. There are no exceptions to this policy. No transcripts, teacher recommendations, or test scores are considered.

The registration fee and terms will be announced prior to the opening of registration. Scholarships are available for students who qualify for the Federal free/reduced price lunch program based on family income and size.

Registrations will be processed on a first come, first served basis until sessions are full. After that, we will maintain waiting lists until 1 week before each session begins.
