Alik Farber, MD, MBA, Appointed Interim Chief, Chair of Surgery

Man in dark suit jacket light blue shirt, medium blue tie smilingAlik Farber, MD, MBA, has been named Interim Chief and Chair of Surgery for Boston Medical Center and the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

A leading physician-scientist who joined us in 2005, Dr. Farber has focused his clinical and research interests on the treatment of peripheral artery disease. He currently serves as Vice Chair of Department of Surgery and Associate Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services. Dr. Farber is a prolific researcher, who has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles about vascular and endovascular surgery and has served as a principal investigator for a number of clinical trials, including the landmark National Institutes of Health-sponsored Best Endovascular versus Best Surgical Therapy in Patients with Critical Limb Ischemia (BEST-CLI) trial.

Dr. Farber is a graduate of Brown University and obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed a residency in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, a vascular surgery fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and an endovascular surgery fellowship at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
