BUSM’s Suzanne Mitchell Receives Five-Year Grant from Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Suzanne Mitchell, MD, MS, an assistant professor of Family Medicine, has been awarded a KO8 grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. This five-year grant will allow her to study the effect of shared medical decision making on health disparities in vulnerable populations. The KO8 grant is awarded to promising early career researchers for career development and research activities.

Dr. Mitchell is a board certified family physician with over 10 years of experience and expertise in cross-cultural communication and health disparities. She completed the joint BMC General Internal Medicine-Family Medicine Academic Fellowship in June 2010 and is faculty in the BUSM/BMC Family Medicine Department. Dr. Mitchell teaches patient-doctor communication and practices clinical medicine with the Family Medicine inpatient and nursing home services. She plans to study the potential impact of shared medical decision making on health disparities in coronary artery disease outcomes.
