2017 Posters

John McCahan Education Day aims to showcase a wide variety of BUMC educational innovations and research activities.  We invite educators to submit a proposal for a scholarly poster to be displayed during the McCahan Education day related to Educational Innovation and Research, including the use of educational technology.

  • Promote innovative curricula, simulations and the development of novel educational tools.
  • Present applications of interactive technology such as online didactics, computer simulations and/or collaborative educational models that enhance adult learning styles.
  • Promote educational research at BUMC in areas such as curriculum development and assessment.

Authors should submit their abstract electronically no later than Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Successful submissions must have a scholarly proposal designed and implemented under the sole control of the investigators. Research or educational projects that are in progress and have not yet been subject to final project evaluation are welcome.  Successful submissions should be non-commercial in nature, with external funding sources disclosed on the final poster.

Authors are expected to be present at the poster session, which is scheduled for 3:45-5:00  in Hiebert Lounge on the day of the event. Multimedia devices such as laptops to accompany posters will be permitted, but power and tables for display will not be provided. 

Applications must be submitted electronically by Friday, April 14, 2017. 

Submitting author will be notified if the abstract has been accepted or if selected for an oral presentation on or before Friday, April 25, 2017.

A cadre of faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health and the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences will review abstracts based on the following criteria:

  • Timeliness, relevance and novel nature of the project or innovation.
  • Clarity of the abstract.
  • Ability for the project to be used by other health care providers and professions.

The poster selection committee is soliciting applications in two major areas:

Education Innovation and Research

The submissions are meant to showcase educational innovations and scholarship at BUMC. Such projects may include descriptive projects, qualitative or quantitative research. Examples include the development, implementation, or evaluation of educational tools, course curricula, simulations or innovative educational collaborations.

Educational Technology

This category highlights creative uses of interactive educational technology. Appropriate submissions include course or clerkship websites, electronic clinical case simulations, online didactics, computer – based faculty development resources and electronic evaluation instruments.
