FAQs for Current Applicant
This section of the Admissions website is intended to assist current applicants: individuals who are in the process of submitting an application for entry in the fall of 2010 to the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). MyApplication, our on-line application system, supports messaging between applicants and the Office of Admissions, allow applicants to check the status of their application, and can be utilized by applicants to update current contact information — mailing address, email address, and telephone numbers.
The following items address the questions most frequently asked by applicants. You may find it useful to review this information before contacting us with questions.
Initiation of Supplemental Application
-
When can I expect to hear from Boston University School of Medicine after I indicate on my AMCAS application that I intend to apply?
After AMCAS notifies us that you intend to apply to BUSM, you will receive an email from our Admissions Office providing you with a web address and instructions for establishing user ID and password to access our supplemental application.
-
What is the link to the BUSM supplemental application?
-
Will I have access to the supplemental application even if my letters have not yet been received by AMCAS?
You will be invited to complete our supplemental application shortly after submitting your AMCAS application. We do not require that the actual letters have been received in our office; however, you will not be able to complete your supplemental application if the letter information has not been entered in the AMCAS application.
-
What do I use to login into MyApplication?
You should have received an initial email notice from Boston University (BU) with information on setting up a BU web login account. If you did not, please contact, medadms@bu.edu with the subject line: “Initial Contact Email“.
-
Why is my email address important?
The email address that you provided to AMCAS is the one that Boston University School of Medicine, Office of Admissions uses to contact you and allows you to set up your BU account. If you changed this email address after you supplied it to AMCAS and before you logged into MyApplication and you have not notified the Office of Admissions, you will not be able to access the MyApplication site. If you have a problem logging in after changing your email address, please contact medadms@bu.edu.
When setting up the BU account, you will be asked to supply an email address to be used as your login name, and you will be choosing a password. Make sure to secure this information as you will need it throughout the admissions cycle.
-
I can view my MCAT scores on the AMCAS web site but not in MyApplication. Why are my scores not listed?
AMCAS does not release MCAT scores to individual schools until after the academic record has been verified in their office. As a result, you may see your MCAT scores on the AMCAS site, but they will not appear on your BUSM electronic application. You need not be concerned about this, as the scores will be added to our database within hours of their release from AMCAS.
-
At what stages in the application process can I expect to hear from BU?
We will notify you when we receive your supplemental application in electronic form. We will notify you again when your application is complete. A completed application includes your AMCAS documents, all letters of recommendation, the application fee or evidence of fee waiver, and MCAT scores.
If our Committee on Admissions is able to offer an invitation for interview, you will receive an email offering a choice of at least three dates. We strongly suggest that you wait to make your travel arrangements until we have confirmed your interview date. Please plan to spend the day with us — our formal schedule runs from 8 AM to about 2 PM. Following your interview and campus visit, we will send you an email reviewing what you should expect thereafter.
Help with Logging into MyApplication
-
I have forgotten my password to the BUSM Supplemental Application. What should I do?
You may reset your password. To do this go to: https://weblogin.bu.edu/buweb/resetpw
-
I listed Boston University on my AMCAS application but have not received an initial pre-registration email, or any other response from BU.
If you did not get the pre-registration email, there are several possible reasons:
1. The email was sent to you, but your spam filter has diverted the email to your junk email folder: please check that folder. If you don’t find the email, and have waited at least 3 hours after getting the first email, contact medadms@bu.edu.
2. You previously applied, and already have a BU Web account. If you recall the email address you previously used as your login, you can use it again with MyApplication.
If you want to change your email address/login or password, go to: https://weblogin.bu.edu/buweb/update to change your login data with the Web Account group. If you have further questions about your web account, you can contact the BU Web Account group at web-account-manager@bu.edu or call them at 617/358-4020. -
I never received the email to set up my password. What should I do?
You should have received an email from Boston University Information Systems (Boston University Web Account Registration) providing directions for selecting a password for MyApplication at BUSM. First check your SPAM or Junk mail filter. If you did not receive that email, contact medadms@bu.edu. Use the following subject line in your email: “MyApplication at BUSM Login Problem: Did not receive email to set up password.” Include your AMCAS ID number on this and every other electronic and hardcopy communication you send to us through the application season. The password you have chosen will be required for access to our application and for communicating with our office via the web.
-
What is my BU login name?
Your email address as you provided to AMCAS is your login name. (See next question if you already have an @bu.edu email address).
-
What if I already have a BU account?
If you have an @bu.edu account, you should log in with your username (without the @bu.edu) and your Kerberos password.
-
How do I reset my Kerberos password?
If you need to reset your Kerberos password, you can do so here: http://weblogin.bu.edu/buweb/resetpw. If you are asked to present identification, our ACS accounts office may be able to help you to confirm your identity without physically going to their office. You can contact them at 617/ 353-2784 and explain the situation, and they may be able to offer a more convenient alternative.
