Blood and Saliva Samples

What do we do if we need to ship a sample on Friday?

You will have to wait to ship it on Monday since BU can not receive packages on Saturday. Keep blood samples in a dark place at room temperature so that they do not get destroyed.

Does it matter if it is a saliva sample or blood sample?

Yes! We always want to try to get blood samples. While we can find the genotype for using either sample, we typically cannot store DNA with a salvia sample because not enough DNA is collected.

A lable got ruined/misused and now we can’t put a label in the sample. What do we do?

You may write the sample ID on the actual tube or Buccal kit. It is better to have it on this way than not have the sample labeled at all.
