Symptoms of Scleroderma

Patients with scleroderma experience a range of bothersome symptoms due to vascular damage, immune cell activation, and excessive tissue fibrosis. These symptoms include painful changes in the color of their fingers with cold exposure (known as “Raynaud’s”), puffy hands, small scars on the fingertips, or large ulcers on the fingers. Additionally, patients may suffer from joint pain, stiff and tight skin, and acid reflux. Some may develop lung or heart complications, leading to shortness of breath, while others may experience gastrointestinal issues such as bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and weight loss.
