Commemorating Dr. Burt Sack

  • “I am sure no one can forget his X ray rounds every 2 weeks and as I learnt much later that they were very popular even at Brown University Rheumatology Rounds.  In addition to being an inspiring teacher and a committed doctor, he was a truly a great friend.  Even after graduating, he met with my wife and me in Providence a few times at his favorite Indian restaurant and fondly spoke of our kids”. Deepan Dalal
  • “Burt truly was a shining light in all of our education”. Elaine J. Alpert
  • “Burt Sack was a wonderful Rheumatologist and a  wonderful human being. His passion for, and commitment to, our specialty will long be remembered”.  Ted Lally
  • “He was one of the best clinical teachers I have met in my life and the most loyal graduate of the BU unit. We often disagreed but the respect I felt for him was immense and only strengthened over the years. It was always a treat to see him at the ACR”.  Juan Canoso
  • I am sure that  you will join with me in remembering Burt Sack’s legacy. As most of you know,  Burt maintained a busy Rheumatology practice in Brockton for many years. He was an outstandingRheumatologist and  a pillar of the Rheumatology community in Massachusetts and  New England. He had many friends among RI Rheumatologists and visited us frequently for Grand Rounds and Fellows’ Conferences.
  • Particularly near and dear to Burt’s heart was the Boston University Rheumatology Program of which he was an integral member from the days of Alan Cohen, Edgar Cathcart, and Bob Meenan to Joe Korn and Rob Simms.
  • Burt was a consummate clinical rheumatologist and superb teacher. His xray rounds were legendary to generations of Rheumatology Fellows (and faculty). His depth of knowledge was also astounding and he shared this many times during conferences, including Intercity Rounds. He won many teaching awards and was recognized as a Master of the ACR.
  • Also near and dear to Burt’s heart was the New England Rheumatism Society of which he was a prominent member. He served as President, Secretary. and Treasurer. You could always count  on seeing Burt at the Fall and Spring meetings in Dedham and listening to his stories and enjoying his humor.
