Abstract: The eye provides a unique and accessible window into brain health, offering structural and molecular biomarkers that may aid in the early detection of neurodegeneration. Patients with eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal vascular occlusions represent at-risk populations for developing Alzheimer’s disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and related dementias. Advances in retinal imaging (OCT/OCTA) and the identification of protein biomarkers in ocular fluids (tears, aqueous, vitreous) highlight the strong eye-to-brain connection and their potential for risk stratification. This presentation integrates current literature with original research to highlight the role of ocular diagnostics in addressing the growing burden of dementia.
