“PTH1r signaling in Cathepsin K+ stem/progenitor cells: Implications for Long Bones, Calvarium, and Teeth”

Francesca Gori, PhD
Associate Professor, Harvard School of Dental Medicine

Dr. Gori’s longstanding interest is to study the molecular, cellular and genetic basis of skeletal development and homeostasis and its regulation in health and disease.

She earned her PhD in Cell Biology from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Natural Science at the University of Florence, Italy. Dr. Gori furthered her training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, working with Drs. Riggs and Khosla. In 2000, Dr. Gori joined Dr. Demay’s lab at the Endocrine Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where she was promoted to instructor and later to assistant professor in 2005. In 2011, Dr. Gori became a member of the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity (OMII) at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), where she is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Bone and Mineral Research. Her lab’s current research focuses on Wnt signaling and its role in regulating skeletal stem/progenitor cells, bone homeostasis, dental stem cells, and craniofacial bone development. Other ongoing studies explore the role of osteocytes in regulating bone remodeling and mineral metabolism, as well as novel mechanisms by which PTH/PTHrP signaling controls skeletal homeostasis. Dr. Gori has authored numerous publications and has received several prestigious awards, including the Harold Frost Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR), the John Haddad Young Investigator Award from Advances in Mineral Metabolism (AIMM), and the Burton C. Borgelt/SCADA Faculty Advisor Award from the International Association for Dental Research/American Association for Dental Research. At HSDM, Dr. Gori also plays a significant role in the education of DMD students and AGE residents. She serves as the director of predoctoral research, director of the DMSc and PhD programs, and as director of several courses for predoctoral and AGE students.
