SummerLab 2025!

Thank you for your interest in SummerLab 2025! Registration for SummerLab Sessions 1 and 3 began at noon EST on February 16, 2025.

Pending final approvals, the SummerLab 2025 schedule will be:

Session 1: July 7-July 18 – Gene Editing in Human Disease (Waiting List)
Session 2: July 14-July 25 – Gene Editing in Human Disease (registration on hold)
Session 3: July 21-August 1 – Gene Editing in Human Disease (Waiting List)
Session 4: July 28-August 8 – Gene Editing in Human Disease (registration on hold)

We are waiting for confirmation of additional lab space before opening registration for Sessions 2 and 4 and hope to be able to open registration for these sessions by March 10, 2025. If you want to be notified about the opening of registration for these sessions, please complete this form. We will accommodate switching of sessions for students with confirmed space in Sessions 1 and 3. We are creating waiting lists for all sessions and will admit students as space becomes available. We are accepting students from the waiting lists and will continue to do so until one week before each session begins.

Gene Editing in Human Disease allows students to learn state-of-the-art CRISPR gene editing, a technique that was recognized by the 2020 Nobel Prize. Through hands-on experiences, students will learn how gene editing can be used to cure disease as well as exploring the ethical and social considerations of the use of these new techniques. In addition to CRISPR, students will perform biotechnology/molecular biology labs including bacterial transformation and cell culture, plasmid minipreps, cell lysis, DNA quantitation, nanoencapsulation, and much more.

SummerLab will meet Monday-Friday from 9AM to approximately 3PM each day. This is a commuter program, so students who live beyond the distance for a daily commute will need to make their own arrangements for suitable accommodations in Boston. Room and board at Boston University will not be available in Summer 2025.

Students must be 15 years old by June 30, 2025 in order to attend. There are no exceptions to this policy. No transcripts, teacher recommendations, or test scores are considered.

Fee:
The cost to attend SummerLab 2025 is $2,000.

A $500 deposit required within two days of notification of acceptance to hold a place in SummerLab. This deposit is non-refundable. If payment in excess of the $500 deposit is made before May 31, 2025, the excess will be fully refundable until that date.

Full payment of $2,000 will be due on May 31, 2025 and will not be refundable after that date.

Scholarships are available for students who qualify for the Federal free/reduced price lunch program based on family income and size.

Registrations will be processed on a first come, first served basis until sessions are full. After that, we will maintain waiting lists until 1 week before each session begins.
