Diversity and Inclusion

Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion:

We are truly committed to practices that prioritize engagement and foster the development of a diverse workforce. We aim to create an inclusive environment welcoming to underrepresented minority trainees, clinicians, and staff at Boston Medical Center.

To learn more about our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion, we invite you to explore the following resources:

We support REACH (Recognizing and Eliminating Disparities in Addiction through Culturally informed Healthcare) which aims to 1) increase the overall number of racial and ethnic minoritized addiction specialists in field of addiction and (2) increase the number of addiction specialists adequately trained to work with racial and ethnic minoritized patients with substance use disorders (SUD) through mentorship and scholarship. On current program director, Dr. Alyssa Peterkin, and former program director, Dr. Alexander Walley both serve as mentors. REACH scholars include former fellow, Dr. James Pierre (2021-2022) and current fellow, Dr. Gabriela Reed.

We worked closely with IDEAAA (Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Addiction medicine, Addiction research, and Addiction health professions) at Boston Medical Center which had the mission to improve and foster diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within the field of addiction through the education, mentorship, and advancement of people who are historically excluded and underrepresented in the addiction workforce.

BMC supports the Boston University chapter of MAPS (Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students).
