BU Chobanian & Avedisian SOM Excellence in Research Mentorship Award: Medical Students or GMS Students

Excellence in Research Mentorship Award: Medical Students or GMS students recognizes BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty member who has been an exceptional research mentor to BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine medical and/or graduate students in a range of research activities that include but are not limited to biomedical research, clinical research, educational research.

Categories:

  • MD – Research mentor to medical students
  • GMS – Research mentor to PhD and/or Master’s students

Eligibility:

  • All BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty who are involved in mentoring BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine medical and/or graduate students for their research projects and have been faculty at least 3 years.
  • Each category of award is a lifetime achievement award; thus, cannot be a previous category winner, however, is eligible for other category (i.e. MD category winner is eligible for GMS & vice versa).

Criteria for nomination: Though these criteria are not exhaustive, competitive nominees will have demonstrated some of the following:

  • Provide valuable guidance and support throughout the research project(s).
  • Committed to students’ career development, and professional development
  • Enhance the student’s research skills, including experimental techniques, data analysis, problem-solving and scientific writing.
  • Inspire diverse students by being a role model within the academic and research community.
  • Receive positive feedback from students regarding the research mentorship experiences.
  • Assist student’s research output and involvement in research publications at conferences or other scholarly activities.

Who can nominate: Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Students and recent graduates

Nomination Process: A formal nomination letter addressing the most outstanding research mentoring attributes of the faculty based on above criteria should be submitted to BU Chobanian & Avedisian SM Awards Committee (camedfao@bu.edu).

The nomination letter should not exceed two pages with minimum font 11 point and must include:

  • Nominee’s name and the academic status (i.e. M1, M2, PhD candidate, Master’s students or recent graduate -including graduation year)
  • Length and frequency of research mentorship (i.e. one year every day, one day/week for one year, etc.)
