BU Chobanian & Avedisian SOM Excellence in Faculty Mentorship Award
The Excellence in Faculty Mentorship Award recognizes BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to mentoring faculty as part of their work, including peer-to-peer, near-peer mentorship, and assisting early career and mid-career faculty in developing their careers.
This award will be given to one faculty in each category.
Categories of Awards:
- Early Career Mentorship Award: Instructors and Assistant Professors
- Senior Mentorship Award: Associate Professors and Professors (both modified & unmodified titles)
Eligibility:
- BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty for at least 3 years.
- Each category of award is a lifetime achievement award; thus, cannot be a previous category winner
Criteria for nomination: Though these criteria are not exhaustive, competitive nominees will have demonstrated some of the following:
- Provide advice, feedback, and guidance on all aspects of academic life. This may include mentoring and sponsoring faculty in research/education/clinical activities, coaching on work-life integration issues, providing professional opportunities for mentees, and/or assisting in the development of teaching skills.
- Demonstrate commitment to effectively fostering the intellectual, creative, scholarly, and professional growth of their mentees.
- Evidence of sustained commitment to a professional mentoring relationship that results in mentee career growth or personal development.
- Mentor and inspire faculty from diverse backgrounds.
Who can nominate: Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty
Nomination Process: A formal nomination letter addressing the most outstanding mentoring attributes of the faculty based on the above criteria should be submitted to BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Awards Committee (camedfao@bu.edu).
The nomination letter should not exceed two pages with a minimum 11-point font and must include:
- Nominee’s name, department, and the academic title
Note: Faculty Affairs will ask nominees to submit an updated CV that includes a mentoring table.
