Seeking Clinical Faculty to Join Academy of Medical Educators (AMEs)
BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Medical Education and Student Affairs Offices are seeking clinical faculty to join the Academy of Medical Educators (AMEs) who will serve as the core advisor for students for the entirety of the students’ time in medical school, core faculty in the Doctoring courses and a longitudinal clinical assessor for a cohort of students across the 4 years of the curriculum.
The commitment is one afternoon per week throughout the calendar year. AMEs will teach communication, physical exam and clinical reasoning skills to students in the Doctoring courses. The course design is primarily case-based small groups (eight students) with role play, standardized patients and skills training. AMEs also will be assigned a cohort of eight third-year clerkship students who they will directly observe during patient care to assess and provide feedback on their clinical skills. AMEs will serve as the core advisor in the advisor network for 16 students over the four years of the MD program curriculum. The advising role includes both scheduled and unscheduled meetings with students. Required faculty development and team meetings will occur throughout the year.
This role will require teaching and assessing the full scope of practice students need to enter and succeed during the clinical phase of the curriculum. AMEs will be hired starting July 1, 2025, at the rate of $21,210 plus fringe for 47 half days/year. Ideal applicants are MD or equivalent faculty who are passionate about clinical medicine, teaching and mentoring students and supporting their professional development. Applicants should have experience with small group facilitation, mentoring and assessment.
At this time, we are unsure if there will be any AME openings in the 2025-26 academic year. We frequently have some turnover closer to the end of the academic year, or emergent openings during the year due to parental leaves, etc. If you are interested in being considered for a full-time or short-term role or any other emergent opening that may occur, we encourage you to apply.
If interested, please send your CV, a statement describing your interest and experience with the teaching skills required for this role and the name/email of two faculty references from BU/BMC, preferably one within your department. Teaching evaluations are one of the key criteria in selecting applicants. For those who have taught in the medical school, we will review your previous teaching evaluations as part of the selection process. If you have never taught in the medical school but have taught other learners (residents, fellows) please send 2-3 evaluations from the last three years with your application. The successful applicant should demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Please send all materials to Abigail Zielinski at aziel@bu.edu by Friday, Feb. 3. We encourage you to discuss your interest in the position with your chair/section chief before applying. If you have questions about the position, please feel free to contact Priya Garg, MD, associate dean of medical education and Angela Jackson, MD, associate dean of student affairs.
