Seeking Candidates for Assistant Dean, Student Affairs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical students with needed advice and counsel, advocate for students, and promote student welfare. Must uphold school policies and comply with all regulations applicable to students, anticipate student needs and take the lead in new program development.
  • Assist students with career selection, and provide guidance and advice throughout the residency application process.
    • Prepare the Medical Student Performance Evaluation or MSPE (formerly known as the Dean’s Letter); write letters of recommendation.
    • Assist students with scholarship, research and award applications.
    • Teach and foster professionalism and professional identify formation for students.
  • Work collaboratively with other deans, faculty and staff on projects and initiatives.
    • Attend and participate in the organization of annual milestone events (e.g., orientations, Match Day, Commencement, White Coat).
    • Represent the school in regional and national medical education meetings.
    • Contribute new ideas on how to improve the student experience, with an emphasis on implementation and assessment of these new initiatives.
    • Actively participate in the development and dissemination of medical education scholarship.
    • Rotate in the Student Affairs on-call coverage.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of significant leadership experience.
  • Experience working with students, with an emphasis on career development and counseling.
  • In-depth knowledge of the ever-evolving residency application process.
