Toby Chai, MD, Honored by American Urological Association

Toby Chai, MDToby C. Chai, MD, Professor and Chair of Department of Urology, will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the American Urological Association (AUA) for his exemplary contributions to the science of urology and advocacy for urological research.  He served as Chair of the AUA Research Advocacy Committee over the past three years and led initiatives that successfully championed for urologic research support from public, private, and philanthropic sources.

Chai, who also serves as chief of urology at Boston Medical Center, will be recognized at the Association’s annual meeting in New Orleans in May 2022 marking the 59th anniversary of the awards program.

Chai has been recognized for his significant contributions in urology including receiving the AUA’s 2013 Victor A. Politano Award for outstanding work in treatment of urinary incontinence and innovations in bladder research. He received the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction’s (SUFU) 2015 Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to urodynamics, female urology and voiding dysfunction, and exemplary service to the Society.  He was the recipient of the Society for Basic Urologic Research’s (SBUR) 2001 Young Investigator Award highlighting his early impactful contributions to basic research and recognizing his potential as a clinician-scientist.

Chai received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, completed his urology residency at University of Michigan Medical Center and a fellowship at University of Virginia.
