Dr. Susannah Rowe Awarded March Distinguished Faculty of the Month

The Faculty Affairs Office is pleased to announce that Susannah Rowe, MD, MPH, is March’s Distinguished Faculty of the Month.

Dr. Rowe is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, where she serves as Vice Chair for Patient Safety and Quality. She specializes in surgical, laser and medical treatment of eye disease, and founded BMC’s Exceptional Vision Service, a multi-disciplinary team focused on surgical eye care for people with intellectual disability, mental illness and other special needs. She was recently appointed Associate Chief Medical Officer for Wellness and Professional Vitality at BMC, leading the hospital’s efforts to understand and address clinician burnout.

Dr. Rowe received a BA from Wesleyan University and her MD and MPH from Johns Hopkins University. After completing her residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and participating in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program, she was appointed to her position at Boston University, where she has won the Outstanding Surgical Instructor Teaching Award three times.

The nomination states: “She has been with the Department of Ophthalmology for over 15 years.  In this time, she has been recognized as the go-to person for patient safety and physician wellness. She helps faculty deliver the best medical care possible in a complex hospital system; and helps the department develop patient safety protocols that decrease medical errors and helps faculty navigate difficult patient situations.”

“She works tirelessly to isolate system-wide issues that impede good clinical care and then figures out methods to solve these issues.

Congratulations!
