Nov. 29: Judging a Publication’s Quality

Tuesday, Nov. 29
Noon-1 p.m.
Mugar Library Room 302
Charles River Campus
The BU Libraries’ Digital Scholarship Services will be hosting a discussion on how to evaluate published scholarship. Whether you are choosing a journal to submit a paper to, or evaluating others’ research, judging publication quality is important—but this process has been complicated by such factors as the growth of open access journals, alternative ideas about publication impact, and the rise of predatory publishers.

We’ll talk about our experiences evaluating scholarly journals, consider the difference between “prestige” and “quality” for publications, and share helpful resources for choosing and evaluating publication options.
