BUSM’s Ramsey Receives Outstanding Advocate Award

COM Ramsey JeanBoston University School of Medicine Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics Jean E. Ramsey, MD, MPH has been named recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Advocate Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Presented annually, the award recognizes ophthalmologists who have a shown a dedication to advocacy work at the state or federal level.

Ramsey has been advocating for children’s vision care for over a decade and helped craft the Massachusetts vision screening bill that was signed into law in 2004. She has also worked with organizations such as the CDC and Head Start to promote early pediatric vision screening for all children. In addition to her own work, she also mentors other physicians in the importance of advocacy and encourages them to participate in events such as AAO’s Advocacy Ambassador Program and Congressional Advocacy Day.

Ramsey, BUSM ‘90, BUSPH ’08, also serves as BUSM Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs and Vice Chair of Education and Program Director for the Department of Ophthalmology.
