The National Football League, moving to quell criticism that it has long neglected the safety of players, on Monday named the president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston as its first chief health and medical adviser.

“She is a very respected clinician but also a very respected administrator. You don’t get to run Brigham and Women’s if you don’t know how to herd cats,” Cantu said. “I feel she’s taking this on because she thinks she can make a contribution, not to put another notch in her belt.”
