Biomedical Engineering applicants and current students with interest in the pharmacological sciences are encouraged to consider interdisciplinary training through participation in the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) PhD Interdepartmental Training Program in Biomolecular Pharmacology. BME students in this program develop expertise in the pharmacological sciences through additional courses taken at Boston University School of Medicine in place of and through collaborative research training with Program faculty members and participation in program activities such as industry research rotations. Current BME faculty participants include Professors Irving Bigio, Mark Grinstaff, Xue HanCatherine Klapperich, John WhiteJoyce Wong, and Muhammad Zaman.

Pharmacology courses for BME students in the Program include Molecular and Translational Pharmacology, Molecular Neurobiology and Pharmacology or Cancer Biology and Genetics, and Systems Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Learn more about these courses and program electives.

BME students interested in joining the Biomolecular Pharmacology Program should consult with their advisor and then contact the Academic Manager of the Department of Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics about the process of joining the program, registering for program pharmacology courses, and applying for stipend support through appointment to the NIGMS Training Grant.
