“From the behavior of atoms in macromolecules to the effect of molecules on the behavior of organisms, the pharmacologist must be trained to think in terms of several dimensions simultaneously.”
– David H. Farb, Professor & Program Director
Whether your interests lie in curing diseases of the mind or heart, or eradicating cancer for generations to come, training in pharmacology will give you the best foundation for advancing your research ideas from discovery to treatment. Our department administers the NIGMS supported “Biomolecular Pharmacology Program” that is directed toward preparing students for the pharmacology that will treat the diseases of future generations. Advanced research in the translational sciences requires an understanding of the principles and precepts of a broad range of disciplines. To meet this need we have developed a highly interdisciplinary university-wide training program, including such departments as Biomedical Engineering, along with industrial training partners, such as Pfizer.
Through laboratory rotations entering students gain access to a broad range of techniques and academic perspectives that are united by a central pharmacological goal: to advance science through a better understanding of disease process, its treatment, and eventual cure.
Let us help you make a difference in the lives of others as well as yourself.
