Dr. Alysse Wurcel Selected as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Correctional Health Care

Dr. Alysse Wurcel, an Associate Professor and clinician investigator in the Section of General Internal Medicine, has been selected as the new Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Correctional Health Care.

The Journal of Correction Health Care recently announced this leadership transition, noting:

Dr. Wurcel brings a wealth of experience, both clinical and research-based, that will guide the journal into its next chapter. Following completion of medical school at University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Wurcel completed an Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston followed by Infectious Diseases fellowships at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Tufts Medical Center. She also obtained a master’s in Clinical and Translational Science from Tufts University. Dr. Wurcel was an Infectious Diseases doctor and Associate Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine for the for the past 12 years before moving to Boston Medical Center in October 2024. Dr. Wurcel is a national expert in infectious disease care in correctional settings. She has published over 100 articles, with the majority focusing on HIV, hepatitis C, and COVID-19 in criminal-legal involved populations.

Dr. Wurcel has established herself as a nationally-recognized clinician investigator with expertise in infectious diseases and experience working with criminal-legal involved people, people who use drugs, and communities of color. Her programmatic work in jails has made her a leader in her field and positioned her well to continue making positive changes to carceral healthcare through innovative research.
