September is National Recovery Month

Thousands of purple flags planted in the Common in front of a brick building and large tree.
More than 22,000 flags were planted in the Boston Common for International Overdose Awareness Day.

Saturday, Aug. 31, was International Overdose Awareness Day, which was dedicated to creating a better understanding of overdose and red

ucing the stigma surrounding drug-related deaths. At BMC, we believe that no family should have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to an overdose.

September is National Recovery Month, which is a time when we not only remember the lives lost to the disease of addiction but also a time to shine a spotlight on the fact that treatment works and long-term recovery is possible.

Purple flags and an American flag are planted in the green grass as people walk around them.

Stop by the Crosstown lobby this September and add your voice to our Recovery Month celebration. Write an inspirational message or thought on a purple post-it and stick it on our *Encouragement and Strength* banner. Or choose a purple tag to share a message and hang it on our cardboard tree of hope.
