Gerald V. Denis, PhD, Named Shipley Prostate Cancer Research Professor
Gerald V. Denis, PhD, has been named the Shipley Prostate Cancer Research Professor effective September 1, and will represent the molecular oncology themes of the Center.
Dr. Denis has been a member of the BU faculty for 23 years, during which time he pioneered studies of the Bromodomain and ExtraTerminal (BET) protein family that is important for cellular growth in leukemia, and metastasis of breast and prostate cancers.
He will bring his experience in tumor microenvironment and shared signal transduction across diverse cancer types to the problems of early detection, progression and biomarker discovery in our prostate cancer disparities population. A Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics, Dr. Denis also currently serves with Drs. Julie Palmer and Matthew Kulke as Co-director of the BU BMC Cancer Center and is a charter member of the Tumor Microenvironment Study Section at NIH.
Dr. Denis received his undergraduate degree from Harvard, his Master of Science degree from the University of Tokyo and his PhD from the University of California-Berkeley.
