Successful biomedical and public health studies require careful planning and conduct. Study design and data analysis are key components in research. This presentation will address common statistical and design issues to be considered. The lecture will cover concepts in basic statistics, discuss the issue of sample size and statistical power and will present an overview of study designs most commonly used in clinical research. Attendees will better understand the need to incorporate the expertise of biostatisticians and data management professionals early in the development of their research projects.
