Boston University Members Host National Panel on Exercise
Members of the Boston University Community hosted a national panel on exercise. This program supported by the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) included an inter-professional group of PD experts from across the US and was led by Terry Ellis, PT, PhD, NCS, Director of the Center of Neurorehabilitation at Sargent College. Boston University, and Lee Dibble, PT, PhD, ATC, University of Utah. Other BU faculty included Movement Disorder Specialist, Marie Saint-Hilaire, MD, FRCCP, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Cathi Thomas MS, RN, CNRN, and Tami DeAngelis, PT, DPT, GCS. Robin Kornhaber, Senior Vice President, National Programs and Partnerships organized this national blue ribbon panel.
Dr. DeAngelis and Merrill Landers, PT, PhD, University of Nevada are the primary authors of the APDA Parkinson’s Disease Training for Fitness Professionals This online program will help to ensure that participants are safe and supported. The program will also teach fitness professionals about the signs and symptoms of PD and the important ways in which exercise can improve those symptoms, as well as how to describe common PD symptoms and clearly explain the benefits of exercise to those with PD.
