  • Education Dr. Maria Prom currently serves as the Director of the Boston Medical Center/Boston University Medical Center Global and Local Center for Mental Health Disparities. She is a consultation-liaison psychiatrist and global mental health researcher and educator focused on addressing mental health disparities, locally and internationally. Her interests include mental health care systems and services development in under-resourced settings, integrated mental health care, and sociocultural psychiatry. Dr. Prom has collaborated globally since 2010 in the areas of research, education, service delivery, and capacity building. Her current work is focused on the development of integrated mental health care and the sustainable training of non-mental health professionals in Peru. Dr. Prom received her MD and Certificate in Global Health from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed adult psychiatry residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/McLean Hospital and Consultation-Liaison Fellowship at MGH. She went on to complete the NIMH-funded Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian SOM/MGH Global Psychiatry Clinical Research Fellowship and was the Assistant Director of Training Development and Research for the Chester M. Pierce, MD Division of Global Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital.
