Kelly Schuering, MD

Kelly Schuering, MD joined the Section of General Internal Medicine in 2022. In addition to her work as a primary care clinician, she is an Associate Medical Director within Population Health Management and one of the co-directors of the internal medicine residency’s Health Equity Across Populations Pathway.

As a physician leader for the Medicaid ACO Complex Care Management (CCM) program, Dr. Schuering provides clinical support and training to more than 100 multidisciplinary staff working in five BMCHS ACOs across the state. In addition to supporting program operations, staff resiliency, and program evaluation, she leads CCM practice integration within GIM and BMC-based practices.

Through her work with CCM, Dr. Schuering learned about the challenges of transferring young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities and/or complex medical needs from pediatric to adult care. This exposure sparked a deeper interest that she continues to explore through clinical work, grant-funded research work to assess care received by this population, and operations work to pilot and refine transfer processes.

In 2024, Dr. Schuering took on new roles as a medical educator within the internal medicine residency. As co-director of the internal medicine residency’s Health Equity Across Populations Pathway, she mentors residents in meeting their educational goals through didactic sessions, clinical experiences, scholarly work, and reflective sessions. In addition, she helps to coordinate and support global health rotations for the residency program.

Dr. Schuering completed medical school at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where she also received a certificate in Bioethics. She completed her internal medicine residency training program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on the HVMA/Atrius Health Primary Care Track before joining BMC.
