Education Plan

The overarching goal of the ACS Fellows Program is to provide training in the following areas 1) academics, 2) research, and 3) professional development.

1. Academic Development – ACS Fellows will enhance their academic training by participating in introductory courses in basic biomedical sciences through the division of Graduate Medical Sciences. All courses will be taken by audit providing students with an opportunity to participate in graduate level courses without having the added pressure of maintaining a certain GPA.

2. Research Development – ACS Fellows’ will conduct biomedical research and learn the scientific process under the supervision of one of our outstanding mentors. The mentors will work closely with our Fellows to provide them with the hands-on training they will need to tackle a research project, including developing a hypothesis, planning an experiment, and interpreting the data.

3. Professional Development – In addition to academic and research training, ACS Fellows will participate in community engaged activities through Boston Medical Center’s Cancer Support Programs. The programs include patients and long-term survivor support groups, skill-building and mind/body activities, and special celebratory events throughout the year that support cancer patients and their families within the community. Our goal is to integrate our Fellows within the very community they hope to affect as they transition into careers in the cancer workforce. We will encourage our Fellows to submit applications to medical school, graduate programs in research or nursing, or jobs in cancer advocacy.
